Abstract

- The number of poor people in Sumatera Utara in September 2017 was 1,326,57 thousand people (9,28%), down by 0,94 points compared to the percentage of poor people in March 2017 which amounted to 1,453,87 thousand people (10,22%).
- The percentage of poor people in urban areas in September 2017 was 8.96 percent, decreasing compared to March 2017 which was 9.80 percent. Similarly, the poor in rural areas, down from 10.66 percent in March 2017 to 9.62 percent in September 2017.
- In September 2017, the North Sumatra poverty line totaled Rp.423.696, - per capita per month. For urban areas, the poverty line is Rp.438.894, - while for rural areas Rp.407.157 per capita per month.
- In the period March 2017 - September 2017, Poverty Depth Index (P1) and Poverty Severity Index (P2) showed a downward trend. P1 fell from 1.714 in March 2017 to 1.499 in September 2017, and P2 fell from 0.445 in March 2017 to 0.366 in September 2017. This indicates that the average spending of the poor tends to be closer to the poverty line and the level of inequality in the expenditure of the poor continues to decline.
